Prominent businessman and Asiwaju of Afijo, Chief Debo Omotosho, has commissioned an ultra-modern gymnasium and indoor sports Hall, named after him, at Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo. The businessman and philanthropist, who is chairman of bond Chemicals Company, located in Awe, near Oyo, while commissioning the place yesterday, said he was humbled and honoured by the decision of the Governing Council of the University to name the place after him. He expressed gratitude to the University for the gesture.

In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Rt. Reverend Professor Dapo F. Asaju said it was good that the philanthropist is being celebrated and honoured in his lifetime. He decried the situation where Nigerians hardly honour people until they passed away, and expressed joy that the Governing Council of the University gave him the support to name the indoor Sports Hall and Gymnasium after the businessman. He said part of the fund for building the Indoor Sports Hall and gymnasium was donated by the Parents’ and Sponsors Forum of the University, while the major part of funds was internally generated.

He noted that the University receives no subvention from anywhere, but has done its best to manage the little resources available to it in such a prudent manner that, in his nearly five years in office, no less than one hundred new projects have been undertaken in the University. Asiwaju Debo Omotosho expressed delight at the level of infrastructural development in the University and the prudent management of funds and the high level of integrity displayed by the Vice-Chancellor and his team.

Later, those in attendance, who included top traditional rulers, clergymen, businessmen, Management of the University, and the academia, went into the hall to see the indoor sports facilities in the place which included threadmills, Badminton Court, several table tennis boards and other sports equipment.
