Philosophy
The Philosophy of the Mass Communication Programme of the Department of Communication and Media Studies is to produce graduates imbued and equipped with broad and solid foundation of knowledge and skills in all the scholarship and professional areas of Mass Communication, to contribute
enthusiastically and creditably to the development of Nigeria, Africa and the World at large.
Objectives
Consequent upon the above-stated philosophy, the Mass Communication programme is designed to achieve the following objectives:
i. produce on continuous basis, and at such levels, as may be mandated from time to time, Mass Communication Scholars and Media Professionals equipped with adequate theoretical knowledge and professional skills, required to meet contemporary and future needs of nations;
ii. produce graduates who are knowledgeable and skilled to occupy various positions in the media industry; and
iii. produce graduates that will be able to fit into the specialized areas of Mass Communication, both in the private and public sectors of every economy, such that they (the graduates) would serve and work as Journalists, Editors, Reporters, Writers, Newspaper and Magazine Proprietors, Broadcasters, Programme Presenters, Directors, Producers, Broadcast Media Owners, Film Producers, Book Publishers, Public Relations Managers and Consultants, Advertising Practitio0ners and Consultants as well as News Media Professionals.
