THE DEPARTMENT OF ACCOUNTING AND FINANCE

The Department of Accounting and Finance is strategically positioned, being about the largest department in the University.

It started at the inception of the University in 2005/2006 Session with about 150 students, and it has continued to grow steadily since then.
The department currently runs two undergraduate programmes, namely:

  1. B.Sc (Hons) Accounting, and
  2. B.Sc (Hons) Banking and Finance.

The two programmes of the department respectively enjoy high patronage because of the great opportunities that abound in the two careers.
Our students are thoroughly baked to meet challenges in the modern financial sector.  They are widely exposed to theoretical and practical matters in areas of accounting, finance, economics and business management. Reports we receive concerning our products working in the private and public sectors are greatly encouraging.
Our key focus at the department has always been to produce students who are analytically sound, and those who would uphold thoroughness, accuracy, integrity, fairness, truthfulness, accountability, and fear of God in whatever they do.
At the department, considerable attention and efforts are exerted towards promotion of research and advancement of knowledge in areas of Accounting and Finance.
Our vision is to become number one Centre in Africa for Accounting and Financial studies.
We have on board adequate and competent Lecturers who are not only academically sound, but also professionally qualified and experienced.  They are highly dedicated and efficient. The department indeed has a great future ahead of it.
We have adequate and attractive facilities, as well as a conducive environment, to disseminate knowledge, carry out research, and provide useful services to the community in the field of modern banking, finance, financial reporting, financial analysis, auditing, and related services. Our University Library is one of the best in Nigeria.
We have introduced a specialized Laboratory and Resource Centre at the department where our students are practically exposed to latest electronic packages in Accounting and Finance.
The Entrepreneurial Centre of our University is one of its kinds in Nigeria. The concept and services of the Centre complement the mission and the activities of our department in producing complete men and women who could stand on their own in career world and vocations.
The students of the department are very versatile. Several of them have won prizes in academic performance, awards and trophies in sports, games, and social competitions organized within and outside the Campus.
