MY VISION FOR ACU

To further actualize ACU’s vision to be a “Top Class Institution in the pursuit of knowledge and scholarship through teaching, learning, research and exemplary service to humanity” In addition to this, we shall strive to make ACU the foremost Christian Private University in Nigeria through the emphasis on academic excellence, spirituality and sound moral values; for which the Anglican church is known historically.

MISSION

To produce graduates who are totally formed (Spiritually, academically, morally and pragmatically), who will be self reliant in entrepreneurship and potential players and leaders in global society. To this end, the following policies programmes and projects will be our focal points:

– Rapid Physical developments landscaping of the campus to make it very beautiful, serene and alluring;

– With the help of Almighty God, the Permanent Site of the University shall be developed in line with the Master Plan. Each owner Diocese and endowed individuals will be approached to sponsor buildings, which could be named after them. The new permanent site should be an architectural masterpiece.

– Staff quarters will be developed both in the present site and the new site. It is beneficial to accommodate key staff on campus.

– All staff offices will be well-equipped and made comfortable with all necessary facilities that confer dignity and enhance hard work and productivity.

– New buildings shall be erected especially the Senate Building (to house the Management and Administration), new Faculties, Gymnasium, Stadia, multipurpose Hall, Lecture Theatres and Shopping complex.

– The ongoing good road network will be completed, tarred and well paved with walkways.

– Internet facility shall be provided twenty four hours for the community.

– The Medical facilities and services shall be developed. Modern equipment will be installed and medical personnel will be encouraged. All staff and students will be registered with the National health Insurance Scheme:

– Science laboratories will be we equipped.

 PLANS FOR ACADEMIC DEVELOPMENTS

– Competent and experienced Academics shall be recruited and developed to provide the best qualitative education to students of all disciplines.

– New faculties shall be established for some courses in response to market needs of the society. This will give ACU students cutting edge advantaged in the global job market. The existing faculties shall be strengthened to meet with standards set for accreditation by the National Universities Commission. NUC.

– The Postgraduate School shall be developed. Well patronized Courses shall be offered to attract many potential students to ACU; to run regular and Sandwich programmes.

– ACU will affiliate with other institutions owned by the Anglican Church of Nigeria to contribute to development of the Church as well as take advantage of the numerous students existing in Theological Colleges who can run ACU programmes, thereby paying fees to the University.

– ACU shall pursue foreign linkages with other Universities across the globe which will expose staff and students to knowledge beyond our shores.

– The University Library shall be well equipped with current books and journals; while the E Library will be developed. Departmental and faculty libraries shall be established.

– The centre for General Studies Curriculum shall be enhanced. Course in Spirituality and Morals will be introduced. All lectures in General Studies shall be published as Books of Readings and recorded in Audio-Visual format. GNS examinations shall be electronically set and marked with results published not later than 48 hours of the conduct of the examination.

– Students’ complaints about scores of examinations will be attended to promptly. As much as possible, no student shall be allowed to be victimized by any lecturer or staff with impunity.

– As much as possible, efforts will be made to encourage well-endowed personalities to endow professorial chairs in ACU.

– Inaugural Lecturers shall be held regularly for Professors, not later than one year of their appointments.

– Staff developments through trainings, conferences (local and International) and sabbaticals shall be encouraged for staff.

– Organization of Academic conferences shall be mandatory for all departments and faculties on a regular basis.

– We shall endeavour to ensure stable Academic Calendar.

– A University-based journal shall be established whilst Faculties must do same as outlet for ACU voice in the global intellectual discourses.

– Students’ evaluation of staff performances shall be built in regular practice and shall contribute to staff evaluation and advancements.

– All lecturers shall submit their Lecture Notes to be edited, updated and published as Books of Reading which shall be sold in the University’ Bookshop.

– Lecturers in various courses shall be recorded in Audio Visual DVDs and placed as online resources to be accessed by registered students.

– Centre for Distance Learning shall be established in strategic catchment areas to boost students population and outreach.

– The admissions drive shall be vigorously pursued; incentive may be offered to attract more students.

– All examination result shall be vetted for all courses and results published online latest two weeks after conclusion of examinations. Students will be issued with transcripts of their semester results one month after every examination. Students’ results and profiles shall be sent to their parents or sponsors on regular basis.

– The Committee System of the University shall be strictly made functional. Absolute compliance with guidelines of the Governing Council and Senate will be guaranteed.

SECURITY AND DISCIPLINE

– The Security department shall be well equipped. CCTV monitors shall be installed in parts of the Campus.

– All streets on Campus will be well lit.

– Discipline shall be strongly emphasized among staff and students. The Staff and Students Disciplinary Committees will be made to function regularly and promptly to dispense justice.

– There shall be no room for cheating in examinations, falsification of results, and all forms and ways of exploitation of students by Staff.

– Sexual harassment of students by staff shall be prevented and complaints redressed. There shall be zero tolerance for all forms of immoral behavior. Students’ complaints about against all forms of harassment and extortions will be handled promptly with due investigation and punishment. ACU will reflect its Christian nature as a faith-based university.

– All students shall be administered with oath of non-membership of Secret cults and homosexuality, etc. any student found involved in these evils will be dismissed.

– Parents and Guardian of students shall be updated regularly on the moral status of their wards.

– Punctuality at meetings, University activities and lectures will be enforced. Attendance shall be taken for both staff and students.

– Good dressing and comportment shall be maintained among staff and students.

FUNDING AND INTERNALLY-GENERATED REVENUE

ACU should by now, be self-financing, although the usual contributions by the proprietors shall remain needful. Some other faith-based Universities have become financially viable. We may visit them and learn from some of their actions and policies which may be adopted for ACU.

I was a pioneer Director of Lagos State University Consult, during which I formulated plans for the Internally Generated Revenues for the University. These ideas will be useful in ACU.

I propose to pursue the following:
– The University community shall be called to a consultative meeting to discuss the means of funds raising and management ideas from the community will give them sense of participation in addressing this problem.

– All possible avenues for fraud and wastage shall be blocked and transparency in all things shall be maintained. There shall be no respect for any person who violates the virtues of probity, integrity and transparency.

– All projects will be executed by direct labour as much as practicable, whilst potential donors of building will be encouraged to execute such themselves and deliver to the University.

– All owner dioceses will be encouraged to invest further in ACU on terms which will be most beneficial donors.

– ACU Consult shall be established and supervised by the Vice-Chancellor but headed by competent and honest Director with aggressive entrepreneurial drive.

– The following ventures shall be established/developed:

i. ACU Consultancy services in various professional areas,
ii. Distance Learning Centres
iii. Conference Centre and Event Halls
iv. Summer coaching for candidates seeking admission into the University,
v. Bookshop

vi. ACU Press, for printing and Academic publishing,
vii. Fast Foods and Bakery
viii. Standard Cafeteria Services
ix. Production of ACU bottled water which shall be the only brand allowed for sale on campus,
x. ACU Guest Houses,
xi. ACU owned students Hostel
xii. ACU foundation programme for Pre-Degree programme
xiii. ACU Shuttle Bus Services
xiv. ACU Petrol and Service Station
xv ACU Laundry Services
xvi. ACU Farms
xvii. Etc.

SPIRITUALITY AND MORALS

i. This shall be accorded high priority since ACU is a Christian (Anglican) University. The Anglican mode of worship shall be maintained.
ii. Attendance at daily and weekly worship services at designated times shall be compulsory for staff and all students,

iii. The ongoing Chapel shall be completed and utilized as the Centre of spiritual life of the ACU community. Prayer and counseling services shall be concentrated in the Chaplaincy, Staff and Students shall be put on the roster to lead and participate in Chapel services.
iv. The moral life of staff and students shall be strictly monitored. Restrictions of male/female interactions in hostel areas shall be enforced. Defaulting staff and students involved in immoral behaviours shall be sanctioned. No education is complete without morality. It shall be our ultimate goal to make all graduates of ACU godly, disciplined, well-cultured, hardworking, self-reliant, innovative and leaders of today and tomorrow.
