SIR ELDRYD PARRY VISITS AJAYI CROWTHER UNIVERSITY

Sir Eldryd Parry, a  renowned Professor of Medicine, in the  Department of Infectious and Tropical Diseases, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, paid a  courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor on Wednesday, 24th October, 2018.

Sir Parry was in Nigeria as the Guest Speaker at an event tagged “Hanging the Stethoscope” in honour of Emeritus Professor O.O. Akinkugbe held on Thursday, 25th October, 2018 at the University of Ibadan. Professor Akinugbe, former Chairman, Board of Trustees, Ajayi Crowther University, was marking his 85 th birthday, 60 years in medical practice, and 50 years as a Professor of Medicine at University of Ibadan.

Sir Parry, accompanied by his wife, Lady Helen Parry, and Professor A.O. Ilesanmi, Co-Chairman of the Planning Committee for the event, was received on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Rt. Rev. Prof. Dapo F. Asaju, by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Jacob O. Adeniyi.

During the visit, Sir Parry donated to Ajayi Crowther University a historic book, “Vocabulary of Yoruba Language”, compiled by the Reverend Samuel Ajayi Crowther, then the Native Missionary of the Church Missionary Society (CMS), with Introductory Remarks by the Reverend O.E. Vidal, the Bishop-designate of Sierra Leone. The book was published in 1852 by Seelays, Fleet Street and Hanover street, Hanover Square, London.
